Kansas Goes From Bad to Worse; Loses Third in a Row
The Kansas Jayhawks are a perennial power house when it comes to college basketball, but after their third loss in a row there are bound to be more people than just the head coach wondering what's up with his team.
Following Wednesday's loss to Big 12 bottom feeder TCU head coach Bill Self called the team the worst that the school has ever had.
Now, I can only assume that he was attempting to do one of those reverse psychology things; tell them they suck so they get mad and play even harder. There is an NBA coach or two that likes to do something like that (I can't remember if it is Dallas or San Antonio), but he calls the guys soft. What macho make likes that, right?
While it worked for the NBA team (sorry, I can't remember exactly which), it totally failed for Self. Oklahoma is a much better team than the Horned Frogs, and the Jayhawks did play better, but the end result was a rare third consecutive loss.
If something like this is going to happen, now is the best time for it. Kansas is one of the better teams in the nation, but even the best of the best get complacent or go cold. Sometimes guys need to lose to be reminded that they are human; that any team can win if it plays harder than the other guy.
Better to get that reminder now, then during the Big 12 Tournament or worse--the NCAA Tournament.
