The Hit That Ended Johnny Knox's Career

Johnny Knox was cut earlier this week by the Chicago Bears. The wide receiver/return specialist vowed to return to the game, but after a few days of contemplation he appears to have changed his mind.

At the tender age of 26 he is retiring from football.

Knox has not played since taking the above hit in a game against Seattle back in December 2011. More than 13 months later he is still having difficulty walking? Yeah, it's time to call it a day.

“As an athlete, you don’t want to give up, you want to keep on fighting. That’s how I’ve always been,” Knox said. “But it’s been on my heart for a while. I know how my body feels...So I’m moving on and going forward.” (SunTimes)

Best of luck to you Johnny.

  1. This is why they need to BAN players from the games who do this. Knox is down, practically LAID ON THE GROUND before he's hit...and the defensive guy lowers his helmet, for what purpose? NOT to play the game, to hurt him. To send a message that "I have more testosterone than you do..." I want to watch football. But this is getting ridiculous. At least in Hockey...the ref's make them fight fairly. At least in the UFC ring, the protect each player. Football is becoming crap.

  2. No argument here man. Too often these days I think guys go for the big hit and completely forget what technique is. The concept of tackling is fast becoming a lost art with so many guys just trying to throw a shoulder into someone's knees instead.
