One year for $2 million.
Yes, he is not a spring chicken. Yes, he has had some injuries over the last few years, but $2 million? For one of the best linebackers in the game and the face of the franchise for more than a decade?
Crazy is an understatement.
What makes it even crazier is that Urlacher was not even asking for much more than what the team offered him-- two years, $5.5 million. And he was willing to work down from that!
The team offered the one year deal and made it seem as if it was a take or leave it kind of deal so he left it.
"...for me to go through a season, put my body through what it goes through during a season at my age, I’m not going to play for that, you know, not for the Bears at least,” Urlacher told Miller and Marvez. “...They said, basically, our offer is one year, two million.”So it sounds like Urlacher thought he deserved a little more respect from the organization he had spent his entire career with. Since he didn't get it he will be open to playing for someone else though, but not the Vikings. They have already said he is asking for too much.
