Ladies and Gentlemen--Elvis (Dumervil) Has Left the Building (Team)!

The Denver Broncos ended up cutting Elvis Dumervil even after he agreed to take a pay cut from $12 million to $8 million for the coming season.

What? Yeah, the whole thing is a bit of a mess or as Newkirk on Hogan's Heroes would say, "Well this is a sticky wicket!" Translated into American lingo that means cluster****.

Finding out the truth on this deal might take a little time. Type in 'Elvis Dumervil' to your search engine and the first story that comes up says he was cut, but the second one says he signed. Huh? It confused me a little bit too!

As it turns out the link to the article that says he signed (off goes directly to the 'NFL News' page and not an article.

So according to the other article from the Denver Post the team had no choice but to cut Dumervil. The two sides did not agree to a new contract till about 1:25 PM. It had to be signed and delivered to the team by 2 PM.

It got there at 2:07:07.

When 2 PM got close the team was put in a bind. Without the new contract in hand when the clock hit 2 PM they would be forced to pay him the original $12 million. Since that was what they were trying to avoid in the first place they had to cut him without the new contract in hand.

Now from what I hear there will now be salary cap implications for the team since Dumervil was officially cut. The team could sign him still of course, but Dumervil could also look elsewhere and see if someone will give him the money he wanted in the first place.

This little drama is certainly not done. It will be interesting to see what happens next, but for now ladies and gentleman--

[UPDATE]--The Broncos are now saddled with $4.89 million in dead money since Elvis is no longer a Bronco.
