Who the Heck is Jeff Cumberland?

Monday night the New York Jets did something that few people thought they would do--they won. What may be even more surprising is who the hero of the night was--tight end Jeff Cumberland.

If you don't know who that is don't worry. No one does, but after the performance he turned in against the Falcons a lot of folks will be interested in finding out.
During his short tenure in the NFL (this is his fourth season) he has played in just 23 games, caught 36 passes for 457 yards and four touchdowns. Prior to Monday night Cumberland had four catches for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Not very impressive, and no reason to think that the undrafted Illinois tight end had it in him. He only had 59 catches in four seasons there. In his best season he had just 352 yards and four touchdowns.

So no reason to think he would have the intense concentration like he did in the GIF above.

Or make this 47-yard catch and run.
Or this 20-yard touchdown grab.

When you are having a potential career kid of night it is understandable if you want to do a little dance.
The Jets are seriously lacking in play makers. Maybe if Geno Smith can hold on to the ball like he did Monday night Cumberland will get the chance to become one.
